Sourcing
Exam structure and process content (what’s tested, grade progressions, applied math) are written to align with the standardized exam content used by the Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) and adopted, with variations, by most states. State-specific facts (agency name, exam vendor, grade nomenclature, renewal cycle, continuing-education requirements) are sourced directly from that state’s own certifying agency wherever possible, with a link to the agency’s program page on every state we’ve researched.
Two categories of state page
Because researching fifty states individually takes time, state pages on this site fall into two categories, and we label which one you’re looking at:
- Researched states. The agency name, exam vendor, grade labels, renewal cycle, and CEU requirement have been checked against that state’s own program.
- Not yet researched. These pages use national baseline figures (the standard ABC-aligned Grade 1–4 progression and typical renewal terms) as a placeholder, and say so directly on the page. We do not index these pages for search until they’re replaced with real state data, so you won’t land on one from a search engine, but you may see one if you browse to a state we haven’t gotten to yet.

Review and updates
Pages are reviewed before publishing and re-checked when a state changes its certification program, when we’re notified of an error, or on a periodic basis as time allows. Certification rules do change, so we encourage you to confirm anything time-sensitive (renewal deadlines, current fees, application windows) directly with your state’s certifying agency, which we link to on every state page.
